Built on Experience

Morella is the newest and most forward-thinking community in the Gallaher family portfolio. An evolution of more than four decades of senior living expertise and built with an attentive understanding of today’s wellness, hospitality, and technology expectations, Morella reflects the family’s commitment to creating communities that feel both elevated and deeply personal.

The family’s roots in senior housing stretch back to the 1970s, when Bill and Cindy Gallaher began shaping the industry across the Western United States. Through their development company, they have built more than 6,300 senior living units, 1,500 custom homes, 1,000 multifamily residences, and numerous commercial projects. In senior living, Bill worked with respected national operators including Chancellor Health Care, Atria, ARV, and Sunrise before co-founding Aegis Assisted Living and later founding Oakmont Senior Living and Oakmont Management Group. Over the years, the family has developed more than 70 senior communities, retaining a select few to ensure exceptional quality and hands-on stewardship. Bill also founded and the family is the majority stockholder of locally based Poppy Bank. Since it’s inception in 2005, the bank has grown to more than $7 billion in assets and is recognized as one of the strongest financial institutions in the nation.

Having helped shaped the company over the last 15 years, their daughter, Molly Gallaher Flater, oversees operations as Chief Operating Officer of Gallaher Companies and as principal of the family’s management arm, Gallaher Signature Living, in addition to serving on the Poppy Bank Board of Directors. Raised in Sonoma County and committed to its future, Molly brings a modern, resident-centered approach—integrating innovations in wellness, technology and service while carrying forward the family’s longstanding values of integrity and care. Morella represents this thoughtful evolution: a community shaped by decades of experience and refined through next-generation insight.

With five generations rooted in Sonoma County, the Gallahers are equally dedicated to giving back to the community. Their philanthropic efforts—from rebuilding homes for fire victims to supporting underserved youth and preserving essential recovery services for women and children—reflect a deep and ongoing investment in the region.

Through the many decades of work the Gallaher family has weathered multiple cycles of ups and downs in the economy and the concurrent impact on the construction, senior and banking industries. The family’s long standing commitment to quality and integrity is matched by a keen sensitivity to changing market and economic indicators. Both have served the family and their many long time employees remarkably well and Morella residents can be assured of the financial and ethical integrity of every Gallaher Companies project.
